Changing the Script - Cat McGowan

Following the success of Cat's debut novel, Under a Christmas Sky, comes her second Novel, Changing the Script.

When party-girl Lucy’s life is torn apart, she flees London for the anonymity of the Welsh countryside, changing her name and appearance on the way.

Soothed by her beautiful surroundings she embraces village life, taking a job in a pub and joining the local amateur dramatics group. With a cast of new friends and even a hot man in the mix she starts to feel settled in this new role. But her past can’t stay buried forever.

As the dark shadow of what happened eventually catches up with her, Lucy feels like she’s two different people. With her future at stake, she needs to decide which version is the real Lucy and which life she truly wants.

Usk at War - Jan Barrow

The small market town of Usk is ancient - its history goes back to Roman times. It has seen many wars and battles. But it was the 20th Century that made our grandparents' and parents' generations overwhelmingly involved with war, on a scale which would have amazed our early ancestors. Unlike Britain’s cities, Usk and the surrounding villages suffered little from enemy action. Theirs was a quiet war but it brought the outside world closer to Usk and its inhabitants closer to one another in their fight against the enemy.

Saron Publishers recently relaunched a second edition of Usk at War by Jan Barrow, first published in 2005. Out of print, its loss was a serious blow to Usk historians. Since Jan wrote this, the Internet has expanded tremendously and much more information was available to Saron to make the book even more of a historian's dream.

The book is enhanced by the inclusion of the oral accounts of over thirty people who lived in or near Usk in the 1939-45 period. Theirs is an invaluable contribution to Usk's history and a fascinating insight into the day-to-day lives of adults and children coping with the privations and uncertainties of war.
